ABIGAIL HARRISON

Abigail Harrison is a graduate of The University of Texas at Tyler where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with a concentration in ceramics.

My work depicts commentary on the human condition, and especially communication in its many forms, which is a main theme of being human, and also just a big part of being; whether one is human or not. What is communication? How and why do we use words, symbols, and sounds that send and receive signals? What is the origin of the energy and information that is being transmitted, and where does it end? What happens if you can't communicate anymore, or what if there's too much of it happening?

Emanation and absorption of energy or signals is related to the interactions between an entity or person and other beings and the space they exist in. Imprints of these signals may linger forever, or disappear immediately, depending on the perception of the experiencer.

Ideograms, stamps, imprints, symbols, tokens, signs, glyphs, numerals, seals, flags and badges are common examples of communications that have many layers, and the work I make is reminiscent of such things. Symmetry, mathematics, materials that reflect or absorb light, density, movement and other elements are present in my work.
